NASA, Lunar Orbiter Mission III: Frame 78, Site III-S8, 1967. Silver gelatin print with photographically imprinted subject and location, 24 X 20 in. (61 X 50.8 cm.)

A view of the moon with a crater at the bottom. These photographs were made by camera satellites which orbited the moon taking sequential scans to create cartographic images composed of aligned segments of the moon.

The film was recorded and processed in the satellite and the images were radioed back to earth to be rephotographed, composed and printed.
