Lot Details

Known for their transgressive subject matter, Nan Goldin’s photographs offer intensely personal glimpses into the lives of the artist’s friends, family, lovers and other acquaintances. Goldin’s richly colored “Misty and Joey at Hornstrasse, Berlin 1992" is no exception in its depiction of two transvestites, Misty and Joey, from Berlin. While Misty, wearing a blue wig and a full face of makeup, poses proudly in the foreground, Joey, who wears a long blonde wig, lingers in the doorway, averting the viewer’s gaze. The resulting composition reads like a snapshot that turns a private, fleeting moment into one that is public and permanent.

This Dye Destruction print is mounted on Alu Dibond in museum quality. With the personal dedication of Nan Goldin it is unique. The photograph has been given to a private collector by Goldin herself and it comes with proven release and a confirmed invoice.
