Lot Details

"Still So Great" (2008) is an important gouache and silver foil painting on paper, and stands as one of the most ironic and visually clever works by young Pakistani Contemporary artist Muhammad Zeeshan. Zeeshan exhibits a process of thinking about oneself and society within his work. By carefully choosing objects that are gender specific, health related or carry sexual connotations, such as his conflation of imagery here--a American-Pop inspired Wesselmann nude woman lies in sensual repose at the bottom of the composition, delineated from the three silver foil and one gouache mouse that are depicted in a stylized manner Zeeshan alludes to the contradictions between what one says and what one does. His work follows the baser human instincts as they become complete thoughts or actions and analyzes how society regards them.

The artist has exhibited at such venues as the British Museum (London, UK), National Gallery of Art (Islambad, Pakistan), and the Metropolitan Museum (Tokyo, JP). Zeeshan has received numerous scholarships and awards for his work and he lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan.
Unframed dimensions are listed: 27 x 18 in. Framed and Matted dimensions: 38.25 x 28.25 in. The work is in perfect condition.
