"Strich ziehen (Oga 106)" (2007) is an important and sublime oil painting by German-based, Japanese Contemporary artist Miwa Ogasawara (Japan, b. 1973). Miwa Ogasawara's works embrace a Western sensibility developed within familiar genres such as portraiture, interiors, and landscape that still embraces a feel of her native Japan. In her work, traditional forms give rise to something autonomous and new, as felt here in the image of a woman drawing a dark line upon a wall, as the title in German here underscores. Ogasawara's paintings look easy, almost offhand, yet they are densely atmospheric and cultivate a quiet clarity that suggests an emotional depth. Such valences of expression are a crucial factor in her work - never does her expressiveness become explicit or illustrative. This painting measures 36.2 x w: 44 inches (91.9 x 111.8 cm), is unframed and in excellent condition.
