Lot Details

This mixed media on glass work by contemporary artist Mildred Howard is both a portrait of the eponymous Louisa and a commentary on the nature of seeing, with the complex interaction of image and glass evoking issues of opacity, subjectivity, and perception. The black miniature window placed on the surface of the work further advances these themes. “Louisa at Divisadero” demonstrates the artist’s special affinity for glass, as well as her longstanding practice of using found materials and objects to connect her work to a larger history.
