Lot Details

Executed in 2012, "Wolke" exemplifies Michael Sailstorfer's practice of employing found objects and manipulating them as minimally as possible, allowing the piece’s inherent aesthetic to speak for itself. The two rubber inner tubes, along with other individual pieces (including steel cable and clips), ship together in a box. An accompanying manual describes how the tubes are to be inflated, assembled, and installed.

Artwork measures 27.56 х 29.52 х 39.37 inches (70 x 75 x 100 cm).

Michael Sailstorfer (b. 1979) is a Berlin-based artist whose sculptural practice depends on the manipulation and reorientation of found materials. Freely employing the ironical or the absurd, Sailstorfer intervenes minimally with the industrial and natural objects he employs, permitting the objects' materiality to take precedence. Sailstorfer attended the International Studio Program, Oslo, Norway and received his MA from Goldsmiths College, London, England. The artist has exhibited at numerous venues including SMAK, Ghent, Belgium; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; the Tinguely Museum, Basel, Switzerland; and Modern Art, Oxford, England, among others.
