Lot Details

"Little Girl" (2006) is a by one of the most notable and exciting of the emerging Chinese Contemporary artists from the "1980's Generation", Meng Yangyang (China, b. 1983). Yangyang rejects Contemporary realism that so many of his contemporaries embrace, painting his figures of boys and girl against monochromatic backgrounds in a surreal, spectral manner that is influenced by Contemporary Western art, outsider art and street art. ""Girl Series no. I" belongs to the artist's most acclaimed ongoing series of similar portraits that feel more like psychological than physical explorations of youth. This painting measures 47.25 x 47.25 inches (120 x 120 cm), and is in excellent condition.

The artist was born in Chongqing, China. In 2006, the artist graduated from Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and is presently studying for a Master's Degree also from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Meng's paintings have been the subject of solo and group exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the U.K. including the 2011 solo: "Youth", Gallery Beijing Space, Beijing, China, the 2010 solo: "Meng Yangyang", Gallery J.CHEN, Taiwan and the 2007 solo: "Images of Fantasy", Olyvia Oriental Ltd., London Simply. Notable Group Exhibitions at galleries including Madhouse Contemporary Gallery, Hong Kong; J & Z Gallery, Shenzhen, China; Mizuma & One Gallery, Beijing, China; Osage Gallery, Shanghai, China; as well as at international Art Fairs: The Palm Beach International Design Expo, Florida, US; Asian Art Week, London, U.K.; The 2nd Chengdu Biennale, Chengdu, China.
