Lot Details

This stunning oil painting of two galloping horses under a blazing, bright orange sun is a major and dynamic oil painting by one of the most celebrated South Asian artists working today, Mashkoor Raza. Here, the artist combines a style based on Western-inspired abstraction and cubism in breaking his organic subjects into shapes and patterns, yet employs an Eastern inspired palette of oranges, lavenders, blues and browns, lush colors that are tempered with a definite use of black lines and demarcations to denote dynamism and movement. This painting measures 36 x 48 inches, is in excellent condition and comes with a formal certificate of authenticity as issued by the Artist.

Mashkoor Raza (Pakistan, B. 1950) is one of the most prominent Contemporary artists in South Asia working today. Born in Karachi, he graduated from the Karachi School of Arts in 1972. His paintings, notably his ongoing series of portraits of women and scenes of horses, are exhibited and collected internationally, both on the primary and secondary markets, held in notable public and private collections.
