Lot Details

"Spotsign" (2010) is an exciting figurative painting by emerging Japanese Contemporary artist Masato Shigemori. A fairly-like figure dressed in a fantastic outfit is in the company of a magical bird, depicted with beams of bright golden light emanating from its eyes. This duo occupy a simple, surreal landscape of lush pink blooming flowers, butterflies, and a magical steamship that sails away in the distance, in the company of shining stars. This painting measures 39.37 x 31.61 inches (100 x 80 cm) and is in excellent condition.

Masato Shigemori was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1979. The work of the artist belies an early exposure to Western art and painting methods yet clearly references Japanese culture, both traditional and modern, especially influence from Japanese anime and his generational artists namely Ai Yamaguchi, Chiho Aoshima and Aya Takano. The paintings of the artist are highly sought-after in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and throughout the Asia and the East. Recent Solo and group exhibitions include in 2011: ‘Ever-lasting Nature, Ever-changing Cities’, Karin Weber Gallery, Hong Kong and again in 2011: ‘Reminiscence’, Sunjin Galleries, Singapore; 2008: "Masato Shigemori" (solo), room21, Tokyo, Japan; 2007: ‘9 x 9’, Spiral Hall, Tokyo, Japan. The artist lives and works in Japan.
