The painting is larger as framed and in excellent condition. "He and she" is a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire an early, museum-level oil painting by Parekh, the caliber of which rarely, if ever, come to market. This painting was purchased by the first owner's father in India in 1971-72, thence by descent.

Manu Parekh is considered one of the most famous Post-Modern Indian artists of his generation and "He and she" is one of his most important paintings known. Painted in 1971, this is one of the most visually arresting and largest-scale abstract oil paintings known by Parekh, and must be considered a Museum-level work by the artist. This painting is a true masterpiece that celebrates the very best of Parekh's use of color, composition and line that have made him critically acclaimed by curators and collectors alike. Parekh admits to being influenced by his surroundings and by a desire to encapsulate the range of human emotions and social being in a manner that engages the viewer through abstracting the feelings of joy, sadness, pleasure and pain expressed through his intense color palette and prominent lines that exude the energy of the human spirit.

Born in 1939, Ahmedabad, the Artist received his Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, 1962. Select solo shows include Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2009; Vadehra Art Gallery, 2004; Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi, and Art World, Chennai, both 1999; ‘Homage’, Centre for International Modern Art, Kolkata, 1998; ARKS Gallery, London, 1997; and Bose–Pacia Modern, New York, 1996 amongst many others. Parekh is a recipient of many Awards including the Padma shree, 1992; the Birla Academy Award for Art and Culture, Kolkata, 1971- 91; the National Award, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, 1982; the All India Arts and Crafts Society Award, New Delhi, 1974; the President of India’s Silver Palque, All India fine Arts and Crafts Society Award, New Delhi, 1972. The artist lives and works in New Delhi, India.
