Lot Details

Filled with simplicity and truth, "Un yé-yé en position" (1963, printed 2012) is one of the most iconic of the figurative, gelatin silver photographs by famous Contemporary African artist, Malick Sidibé. Dimensions: 9.50 x 7.10 inches (24 x 18 cm). Unframed, excellent condition, open edition.
Sidibé is revered for his on-the-spot coverage of the revelry and celebrations of the youth in Mali during the 1950’-1960's, a time when the country was on the verge of independence and when Western music, dress and cultural attitudes had a great influence on the young people, as captured in Sidibé's decades-long series of stunning photographic portraits. In 2007, the artist won the prestigious Venice Biennale's famous Golden Lion Award for "Lifetime Achievement"- the first time this elite prize was ever awarded to a photographer.
