Malick Sidibé (b. 1935) is a Malian photographer who became famous for his documentary photographs of youth culture in Mali's capital, Bamako. After opening his own studio there in 1958, he later transitioned to studio portraiture in the 1970s. His work is exhibited worldwide and he received the Hasselblad Award in 2003, the Venice Biennale's Golden Lion for lifetime achievement award in 2007, and the ICP Infinity Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2008.
