Lot Details

"Femme peuhl du Niger" (1970, printed 2011). Dimensions: 9.45 x 11.80 inches (24 x 30 cm). Unframed. This is one of the most charming of the gelatin silver print, black and white figurative photographs by famed Contemporary African artist Malick Sidibé. Sidibé is revered for his on-the-spot coverage of the festivity and celebration, that swept Mali 1950’s and 60's, a country on the verge of Independence. Sidibé was much liked by the youth and present at many of their social events. In turn, his photo studio became a hot-spot for the art and cultural scene, and where Sidibé took many portraits full of simplicity and truth. In 2007, Sidibé was awarded the prestigious Venice Biennale Golden Lion Award for "Lifetime Achievement"-the first time this top prize was ever presented to a Photographer. Excellent condition, open edition.
