"A Dancing Princess" (2009) is an charming example of the colorful paintings typically filled with cartoonish "Superflat' female figures by Japanese artist Maki Hosokawa. Maki is known to reference unusual narrative sources for a young artist in Japan, looking to Impressionist, Renaissance and Old Master art. This painting clearly references the iconic ballerina paintings by Degas in subject matter, color and painterly style. "A Dancing Princess" measures 45.85 x 23.75 inches (116.7 x 60.30 cm), is unframed and in excellent condition.

Maki Hosokawa was born in Osaka, Japan in 1980 into the generation of Japanese artists raised on manga, anime and the Japanese street-art of the early 1990’s. Maki's works are sought after throughout Asia, especially after she was the winner of the GEISAI #6 Award by Takashi Murakami’s company KaiKai KiKi.
