Lot Details

"Welcome!Welcome! (7-UP Baby)" (2008)is an important and riotous creation of kitsch that defines the works of the most famous Chinese Contemporary artist collective working today--the Luo Brothers.
This work is in excellent condition. It is edition 2/8, signed, numbered and dated on the base and measures 31.5 x 15.75 x 9.8 in (80 x 40 x 25 cm). Here a chubby, pink cheeked baby complete with pink painted toe and fingernails (chubby babies represent prosperity and good fortune in China), lays atop a six-pack of the soda 7-Up and holds one can aloft balanced atop his feet. This work belong to their most important series of sculptures, "The World's Most Famous Brands", series, defined by the appearance of iconic global Western consumer products held aloft in some manner by a Luo brothers' iconic bouncing baby.

The three Luo Brothers, Luo Wei Dong, Luo Wei Bing and Luo Wei Guo, are internationally famous for these unique, over-the top works in a variety of media mostly lacquer paintings on wooden panels and cast statues out of lacquered fiberglass or bronze. The works are in effect a conglomeration of what makes up their society today. The land of the Luo Brothers' is a saccharine vision that revels and enjoys the day-glo, glossy world of "new" China.
