Lucia Moholy was born in 1894 in Prague, where she worked as an editor and lecturer before moving to Germany in 1918 and meeting artist László Moholy-Nagy, whom she married in 1921. She studied photography in Leipzig in 1923 and 1924 and produced work within the Bauhaus school. After separating from her husband in 1932, Moholy moved to London in 1933 to avoid the National Socialist German Workers Party. She photographed and taught in London in addition to publishing "A Hundred Years of Photography, 1839-1939". After the war she was employed by UNESCO and traveled to the Near and Middle East. She retired in 1959 in Switzerland, where she passed away in 1989.
