Lot Details

"Unidentified Liquid 2006 A-32" (2006) is an important painting by internationally famed Chinese Contemporary artist Liu Yujun (China, b. 1963) that is a major example from his ongoing and acclaimed "Unidentified Liquid" series of figurative oil paintings that are super-cropped portraits of beautiful young Chinese women painted in unexpected compositions, colors and with the unknown electric blue 'unidentified' liquid that makes its way into the narrative of every painting by Liu, interrupting the tranquility of the portraits, adding an element of mystery and a subversive tenor. Liu's so-called 'hybrid' female figures underscore his admitted desire to paint women who represent the women of China's past, present and future. This work measures 59 in x 78.75 inches (150 cm x 2000 cm) is unframed, and in excellent condition. Works of this size by the artist rarely if ever come to market.

Liu's work is highly sought-after on the primary and secondary markets, having exhibited widely in solo and group gallery and museum exhibitions in 2012-2009 in France (Paris, Honfluer and Beaune); Belgium (Gent and Knokke Zoute), Belgium; The Netherlands; Germany; the U.S (New York and Florida) and throughout China and Asia.
