Lot Details

"Wow" (2005) is a major silkscreen print in colors by famed Chinese Contemporary artist Liu Ye (China, b. 1964). This print is edition 44 of 58, measures 30.10 inches x 39.40 inches and is in excellent condition.
Liu Ye is famous for his figurative works that appropriate the themes and colors of Pop Art to create innocent, surreal narratives. 'Wow" belongs to Liu's famous 'Modrian' series of paintings and prints, with a young girl standing in front of an abstract painting by Piet Modrian as if at a museum, yet the entire room is painted a bubble-gum pink. The artist's works are metaphors related to the younger generations in China becoming aware and inspired by the western course of art and art history and also remaining proud of their own traditional culture and art. 'Liuye' in Pinyin; signed in Chinese; dated '05' (lower right); titled 'Wow'; numbered '44/58' (lower left);
