Lot Details

"This is an era that belongs to beautiful women. Their attractive bodies can be seen everywhere, we are living in a world full of all sorts of beauty campaigns which show desire, beauty, sexiness, pleasure and fashion. A seemingly wish that was seen as shameful a few years ago, has become the fad of today’s life.'' --- Liu Hong

"Lip Language-Beauty" (2009) is one of the most stunning and accomplished paintings by famed "Chinese Realist" Chinese Contemporary female artist, Liu Hong (China, b. 1956). Painted in the grey-scale of a black and white vintage photograph, except for her brilliant hair color, this beautiful woman strikes an alluring pose for the viewer, as if she is a model in an advertisement, showing off her beautiful face, long neck, full lips and manicured nails, just about to take a sip from the can of Coca-Cola from the straw held up to her mouth. Liu's portraits of the 'modern' young women of China are important as they covey the new Chinese feminine ideology not in explicit sexual images, but by relying on non-verbal physical cues, especially facial expressions and physical gestures. This painting measures 70.86 x 59.00 inches (189 x 150 cm) and is in excellent condition.

Liu Hong was born in Shan’Xi’s Feng Xiang, in 1956. In 1982, she received her Fine Arts Degree from Si Chun Art College with a major in Canvas Painting from the Painting Department. In 1986 she received her Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Canvas Paintings also from Si Chun Art College. The artist is now a professor of painting and Dean at the Cheng du Fine Arts Academy. The artist's work is sought after on the primary and secondary markets, exhibited throughout Asia, Europe, the U.K and U.S.
