'Red Age' (2011) is a visually arresting oil painting by rising star, emerging Chinese Contemporary female artist Liu Fei (China. b. 1983). She is known for her photorealist oil paintings that make social commentaries about the East vs. West, old China versus new China. Here, the future is represented by the small, harmless metal robot who inspects up-close up a colorful Red-Guard era medallion with the eponymous portrait of Mao in profile on its surface. Her ability to create social commentaries through paintings that possess a veneer of innocence, filled with visually seductive imagery, is clever and poignant. This work measures 25.60 x 21.65 inches unframed and is in excellent condition.
