Lot Details

"Frozen Memory No. 3" (2008) is one of the most visually and conceptually accomplished of the ethereal, monochromatic large-scale oil portraits by famed Chinese Contemporary artist, Liao Zhenwu. (Chinese B. 1964 ). The artist's iconic manner of painting is at its best in this stunning work-- defined by the spectral, nymph like portrait of a woman, painted with her beautiful facial features bearing an expression of tranquility, her eyes closed as if dreaming or deep in thought, with swirls of decadent, built-up layers of white, blue, mauve, and grey paint that Liao has swirled above her, expressing in an abstract manner her thoughts and meditations. Liao's manner of painting combines the traditional art of Chinese ink painting, in drips, drops, layers, and loose lines of fluid black and white paint, as seen here .The artist's portraits from his "Frozen Memory" Series are the most sought-after world-wide, now in the West where a painting by Liao was the top selling lot in the entire November 2 2011 Sale at Doyle's NY Auction House "Modern and Contemporary Art" , which set a world record for the artist, at over $194,000 USD premium. This work is unframed and in excellent condition.

Liao's paintings have placed him at top museums and galleries world-wide. In 2010, his solo exhibition "Liao Zhenwu: MONUMENT", began at Today Art Museum, Beijing; traveling to Sichuan University Museum, China and Hua Museum of Art, China. Museum group shows include in 2009: "Evolution of Art History: New Cultural Art", Gefeng Contemporary Art Gallery, China and "In Order to Forget the Memory- The Power of Sihuan", Museum of Central Academy of Fine Art , Beijing, China. In 2008 his paintings were in "Southwest Power Contemporary Art Exhibition", Yuangong Art Museum, Shanghai that traveled to Sichuan Art Museum.
