Lot Details

“Elimination” (2010) is a dynamic large-scale oil figurative oil painting by rising star, Contemporary Korean artist Li Setbyul (South Korea, b. 1970), where uniquely stylized figures inhabit a fantastic world imbued with a sense of heightened drama, underscored by the intense colors, lighting and spatial relationships between the figures to one another as well as to their bizarre surroundings. Setbyul’s oeuvre deals with the subconscious as well as universal human desires. This work measures 82.68 x 63 inches, (210 x 160 cm), is unframed, and in excellent condition.

Li Setbyul graduated Seoul National University of Technology in 1998 and later received his masters degree from the Graduate School of Seoul National University of Technology. His work has been exhibited in select solo Museum and Gallery exhibitions throughout Korea and abroad including: Museum Savina, Peace Museum, Zaha Museum and Seoul Museum, all in Seoul, Korea, as well as Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and the Moran Museum, both in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Setbyul’s international exhibitions have been featured at the MARS Gallery in Moscow, Russia and Arario Gallery in Beijing, China. The artist currently lives and works in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
