Lot Details

Infused with intense color and texture, "Paintscape 1" (2009) by rising contemporary Korean artist Lee Hyun-bae (Korea, b.1779), focuses on the very act and action of the painting. Here in "Paintscape 1" the artist creates an illusion of the occurrance of natural processes, depicting depth and dimension of the paint itself, which in turn becomes the landscape of the canvas. Thickness and texture become the subject matter and evoke a sense of freedom from the formal methods, while at the same time revealing the high skill of representation. This work measures 35.83 x 45.98 inches, framed to larger dimensions listed approximately above, and is in excellent condition.

Lee Hyun-bae was born in Korea and is a rising emerging artist receiving such awards as the "SeMA young artist's supporting program from the Seoul Museum of Art. Lee received a BFA from the Hong-ik University College of fine art, and an MFA from Groningen in the Netherlands. The artist has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Korea at the Insa art center, the Namsong Museum in Korea, the Seoul museum of art, the Guang-ju City Museum, the Korean Sound Culture Center, among others. Works by Hyun-bae are included in the private collections of the Seoul Museum of Art storage.
