Lot Details

"Untitled no. 1" (2008) is a dynamic example of the Neo-Pop portraits by Contemporary Japanese artist, Koichi Enomoto (Japan, b. 1977). The artist fills every inch of the canvas with the depiction of a young woman, her portrait, as well as the negative space around her, filled colors and patterns inspired by traditional Japanese fabrics, as well as modern-day anime, cartoons and video games. Leaving no inch of the canvas untouched, Enomoto even paints the sides of the canvas in a vivid, op-art pattern (see images). This work is new to the secondary market, measures 24 x 19.70 x 2.40 inches (61 x 50 x 6 cm) and is in perfect condition, unframed.

Koichi Enomoto graduated from Japan’s Kanazawa College of Art with an M.A. in 2002 and made his debut exhibition at Hiromi Yoshii Gallery Tokyo in 2004 at the group exhibition “After the Reality” curated by Kentaro Ichihara. A solo show at Yoshii soon followed and his work has since been in select exhibitions in Europe and the U.S. Enomoto’s U.S. debut was at the Stray Show 2004 and his work was featured at the 2005 LISTE Art Fair, Basel, Switzerland. His work was the subject of a two-person exhibition "After the Reality" at Deitch Projects, NY and in the three person show "The Girls of Summer" at Monique Meloche, Chicago, US and in 2008: "Viva Lolita", curated by James Putnam, at Maddox Arts, London.
