Lot Details

"ARTIFICIAL LANDSAPE-Garden of Noblesse" (2008) is a stunning acrylic, Swarovski® crystal and mixed media painting by exciting Contemporary Korean artist Kim Jong-Sook,. This work measures 35.45 x 21.70 inches (90 x 55 cm), is unframed and in excellent condition. The artist has gained international acclaim for her shimmering, visually meditative ARTIFICIAL LANDSCAPE series of paintings to which this work belongs, where she hand-applied hundreds of tiny crystals to monochromatic painted Korean landscapes depicting the rural cottages tucked amidst high peaks and deep valleys, here in a lush, turquoise palette. The artist is influenced both by her desire to re-interpret traditional Korean ink brush landscape paintings, but also by Contemporary Western artists who also use crystals and other decorative materials, such as the "Diamond Dust" works by Andy Warhol, Russell Young, and Damien Hirst, the crystal embellished paintings of Mickalene Thomas and the poured diamond photographs by Vik Muniz.
