Lot Details

Like so many of Jules de Balincourt's paintings, this 2003 work features a slogan written to clearly convey, like commercial advertising, issues in America and America's stance in the world. Here, text by Anke Sievers (b. 1972), "If you write a truth, write a real truth", is presented on a banner over a solid red background.

Born in Paris, France in 1972, Jules de Balincourt earned his BFA in 1998 from California College of Arts and Crafts in San Francisco and his MFA from Hunter College in New York City in 2005. He utilizes stencils, tape, and spray paint to create 'outsider art' that is rich with Americana imagery. His work has been exhibited all over the world including solo shows at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan (2010); Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, France (2007); Arndt and Partner, Berlin, Germany (2006); and Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL), New York, NY (2005).
