Lot Details

A model in a bikini (Stephanie Seymour) poses on a puppy-shaped flower sculpture (Jeff Koons), in the middle of a sprawling lawn. The awkward and comical scene is typical of Jürgen Teller’s “backward glamour” look.

German photographer Teller (born 1964) is famous for his fashion photography, which has featured frequently in high-profile magazines such as Vogue and The Face. He is credited as having established the Grunge Look in the fashion world.

Teller's work has been exhibited in several solo shows at important art institutions including the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain (Paris), the Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna) and the Museum Folkwang (Essen). His work has also featured in several significant group exhibitions, including Not in Fashion at the MMK in Frankfurt, Click Double Click at Haus der Kunst in Munich, Street & Studio at the Tate Modern in London, A Poem About an Inland Sea at the 52nd International Venice Biennale and Fashioning Fiction at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Teller has also shot high profile advertising campaigns for clients including Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood.
