Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Self Portrait from 1887, "Vegetable Museum Series no. 16: Van Gogh made of Leek" (2008) is an exciting, conceptual c-print photograph by Chinese Contemporary female artist Ju Duoqi (China, b. 1973) that recasts Van Gogh's masterpiece in a symbolic and ironic manner. This work belongs to Ju's famous "Vegetable Museum" series, in which she painstakingly recreates the world's most celebrated and iconic Western paintings in intricate arrangements of Chinese vegetables and fruits to replace paint, color, texture, much like the process of photographer Vik Muniz. In this process, Ju questions and explores the "Western version"of art history through the eyes of an Eastern female artist. This photograph is one of Ju's most sought-after images, and is also one of her largest, measuring 47.25 x 39.37 inches unframed, (120 cm x 100 cm) is edition 4 of 6, and is in excellent condition. This photograph comes to the sale directly from the Studio of the Artist, China.

Ju Duoqi was born in 1973 in Chongqing, China and graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts College in 1996. She has exhibited for years at the elite Galerie Paris-Beijing, and has been the subject of countless Museum and Gallery shows, invited to the "Beijing BS1 Contemporary Museum 2007 Nomination Exhibition"at Zhu Qizhan Art Museum and also at the Beijing Art Museum of Imperial City, and the Contemporary Art Museum of Asia in Beijing. The artists currently lives and works in Beijing.
