Lot Details

This magazine cover is hand-signed by Joseph Beuys.
Wilfried Bauer's famous 1972 photograph of Beuys at Documenta 5, in Kassel was used as the Art News 1978 cover for an article entitled "Art in West Germany."
"We Can't Do it Without the Rose" is a reference to Beuys' philosophy that a critical component of art making is to engage both politically and socially. Beuys was well-known for his pedagogic and idealistic performances, based on his teachings at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art.

Over the years, his commitment to political reform increased and he founded several activist groups. In 1979 he was one of 500 founding members of the Green Party.

Beautifully framed with U.V. Plexi.
