"Green Curtains" by American Contemporary artist John Aquilino is one of the his most stunning realist oil paintings to date. This snapshot of the urban architecture from an anonymous American city belongs to a famous ongoing series of similar works by the artist. This work is painted in flat layered colors, based on patterns, light and shadows with a vertical format employed to underscore reinforce the sheer verticality and grand-scale of the sky-scrapers featured in "Green Curtains". Large areas of bright Pop inspired oranges, blues, teals, reds are balanced here by select areas of great detail, such as the intricate reflections in city windows, rendered as swirling pools of color. Even more subtle details appear here, that reference a human presence, in the moss-green curtains that billow gently in the windows of an anonymous building, giving the painting its title.

Aquilino is internationally renowned by scholars and collectors alike for his photorealist oil paintings that embrace his ongoing fascination and unique interpretation of the urban American landscape. The artist's emotional connection to the urban environment is admittedly linked to his love of his native New York City, where he was born, raised and attended University. Aquilino received his formal training at New York University (3-D modeling and Animation), The Art Students League, NY (BFA Painting and Drawing), and The School of Visual Arts, NY (MFA in Painting and Drawing). His prestigious corporate and public art commissions include works for The D.C Council on the Arts and Humanities, Washington, DC; The National Association of Home Builders, Washington, DC; Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, Washington, D.C. He was just featured in "New American Paintings," #88, June/July 2010 edition. Aquilino lives and works in Washington D.C., US.
