Lot Details

Known for his realist oil on canvas portraits that reveal a psychological tension underneath a superficial beauty, this work is an iconic example of Kim's ability to engage the viewer in a game of reveal/conceal, as well as demonstrate his incredible skill. A young woman dressed in white tank and denim cut-off shorts that define the average American girl, stands at center, in a context that is unclear. Kim has painted a table between the woman and the viewer, adding metaphorical distance to the composition. Where exactly is the young woman? What does she hold behind her back? Her straightforward gaze is steady yet reveals little about her emotional state. The titles of Kim's work are always add a twist or more tension and potency to his paintings as it does here. The work is in excellent condition, and is signed on both the front and back of the work. It is professionally framed in with a clean, contemporary wooden frame.
