Lot Details

This unique state lithograph by Jim Dine is a delicate, complex depiction of a cluster of sunflowers suspended in blank negative space. The work's monochromatic composition draws unusual attention to the sunflowers' organic forms, rather than their colors, and provides an opportunity for Dine to demonstrate his consummate draftsmanship in an elegantly reduced context.

Dine donated this work to benefit the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, and it was acquired thence by the present owner. Apart from this unique state lithograph, there was an edition of 17 lithograph prints ("Sunflowers") of similar motif created in the same year, though with different dimensions and composition.

"Sunflowers" measures 22.25 x 30.25 inches (56.5 x 76.8 cm).
