Lot Details

Jeff Koons: Titled: Kunsthalle Bielefeild, Size: 30 x 23 Inches. Hand signed & inscribed with Flower drawing lower right. Published in Germany.

This poster was produced in conjunction with Kunsthalle Bielefeld's 2002 exhibition of Jeff Koons' works dated 1980 to 2002. The show consisted of some of the most iconic two-dimensional works of three distinct mediums, prints, paintings, and photos and was the first exhibition to combine all three aspects of Koons' work in a single space. It included individual series, such as Equilibrium, Luxury and Degradation, and Made in Heaven as well as nearly thirty other outstanding examples of his recent paintings. This poster was sold in the museum's shop as a celebration of the exhibition and features a work from Koons' famous "Easy-Fun Ephemeral" series released as a response to his 1999 collection entitled "Easy-Fun".

Jeff Koons (b.1955) is among the most controversial artists to have emerged in the past 20 years, spawning a new generation of Neo-Dada artists, such as Damien Hirst. Like Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol, Koons is concerned with the transformation of everyday objects into art. His work merges high culture and kitsch into banal works of balloon animals, topiary terriers, and pop icons. Koons insists that there are no hidden meanings in his art, feeling it causes too much critical contemplation. Instead, he wishes his work to be perceived for its initial reaction instilled within the viewer. Over the course of his career, Koons has received numerous awards including the John Singleton Copley Award (2010), the Wollaston Award from the Royal Academy of London (2008), and the Artistic Achievement Award from Americans for the Arts (2006), among others.
