Lot Details

Executed in 1983 and reproduced in conjunction with the artist's estate in 2001, "Rinso" is instantly recognizable as the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, who gained wide recognition in the New York City art scene of the 1980s. Basquiat's works typically employ a graffiti style, with brightly colored abstract images chaotically scrawled across the composition. His works also often incorporate cryptic fragments of text. "Rinso" employs text throughout that allude to critiques of different themes, including race. This work also incorporates one of the most widely recognized elements of Basquiat's iconography: the crown.
This work was done after one of Basquiat's paintings, selected because of its iconic imagery to become one of 4 prints in a portfolio published by David DeSanctis Contemporary Art, New York and Gerard Basquiat (executor of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat). Some minor damages to the frame. If preferred, this work can be shipped unframed.
