Lot Details

"Untitled (Cindy Crawford & Doberman)" (2006) is an iconic mixed media, felt pen on paper work by Belgian artist Jean-Luc Moerman (Brussels, b. 1967). This work measures 11.40 x 14.85 inches (29 x 37.7 cm) is custom framed to 15.35 x 18.50 inches and is in excellent condition. This work belongs to Meorman's iconic "tattooed" series of images, where Moerman appropriates images from advertisements and fashion spreads, typically the image is of a famous cultural icon, in this case super-model Cindy Crawford from a fashion editorial shoot. Moerman symbolically covers his flawless models with elaborate, tribal tattoos drawn in black felt tip pen.

His source imagery runs from nudes in Playboy magazine to high fashion images such as Kate Moss from Chanel posters, to George W. Bush from a Time magazine cover. Ironically he is now often commissioned to cover consumerist luxury good wih his subversive tattooing in advertisemens for Absolute Vodka, in painting a car in collaboration with Peugeot and in creating a series of leather goods in formal collaboration LONGCHAMP to celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Moerman was also commissioned to create wall sized murals at both Art Basel in 2005 and Frieze Art Fair, London in 2004.
