Lot Details

"Pigeons" (1982) is a sublime ink painting on paper that belongs to the internationally famed, ongoing series by Pakistani Post-Modern artist Jamil Naqsh (Pakistani, 1938), of pigeons, or women, or both. Here, two pigeons at center interact with one another and are beautifully rendered up-close, painted with a gestural yet definite brush-stoke for which the artist is known. The sepia-toned birds feel ephemeral as they are depicted against an etheral white background, out of any context, as if from a dream or memory. "Pigeons" is a large work on paper for the artists, as its measure 20 x 30 inches and is in excellent condition. This works also comes with a formal certificate of authenticity.

Jamil Naqsh is internationally recognized as one of the great post-Modern Pakistani painters working today. His paintings, mostly of figural or representational subjects, are collected world-wide and have been the subject of both Museum and Gallery exhibitions. The artist currently lives and works in Pakistan, where there is a Museum dedicated solely to the legacy and exhibition of his decades of works: the Jamil Naqsh Museum.
