"The Family" was the inaugural image for the Great Artists series of limited edition lithographs on black Americans created for the National Urban League, Inc. through a donation from the House of Seagram. Limited edition lithograph. Printed in 1987 at J K Fine Art Editions Co. NY/NJ using hand drawn lithographic plates on Arches Cover 270g. Edition size: 100.

James Denmark (b. 1936) studied with renowned African-American art historian, Samella Lewis, while pursuing his bachelor's degree at Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University in Tallahasse, FL. Later, while earning his MFA at the Pratt Institute of Fine Arts in New York, Denmark began experimenting with collage, creating vivid and colorful compositions that reference African-American heritage, for which he is known today.
