Jacques Henri Latrigue was born in Courbevoie, France in 1894. He began photographing with his father's camera at the age of six and received his first camera, a 13x 18 chamber in wood, two years later. He continued to collect more sophisticated and practical cameras and attended photography lectures until enrolling as a student of painting at the Académie Jullian in 1915. After this, he continued to photograph and received assignments to photograph actors, artists, and other celebrities, including Pablo Picasso, which earned him international acclaim. He became an established fashion photographer and published his first widely acclaimed book, Family Album, in 1966. In 1979, Lartigue donated his entire collection of work, which included 130 original albums and over 100,000 negatives and prints, to the French state. He passed away in Nice in 1986.
