Lot Details

This striking piece by Invader characteristically uses hundreds of Rubik's cubes intricately placed in a precise sequence that mimics pixelization and pointillism, in a style known as Rubikcubism. Invader often tributes his pieces to anti-heroes and villains in crime films, as seen in this work which depicts a scene with Mr. Pink and Mr. White from Quentin Tarantino's cult classic, Reservoir Dogs.

Documenting his street invasions with maps, French street artist Invader (b.1969) has left his mark in over 35 international cities since first appearing in the streets of Paris, France in 1998. His work has appeared in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions, including 'Viva la Revolucion: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape', Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, San Diego, CA (2010); 'Hitchhiker to the galaxy', Daejeon Museum of Art, Daejeon, South Korea (2009); and 'Spank the Monkey', BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, England (2006). Recently, his work has also been the subject of solo shows at La Générale et la galerie Lefeuvre, Paris, France (2011); Gallery Target, Tokyo, Japan (2010); Wunderkammern, Rome, Italy (2010); and Lazarides Gallery, London, England (2010).
