Lot Details

One of the most exciting Middle Eastern emerging artists working today is Ibi Ibrahim (born Yemen, b. 1987, living and working in U.S.). His stunning "Sitara" Series of figurative color photographs belie his formal experiences as a film director, evoking a range of human emotions in his works based on sexuality, identity and culture. "Girl Moment" (2012) is one of his most intimate and personal of his Sitara series of image, depicting a stunning young Middle Eastern woman laying on lush green grass, wearing colorful patterned robes that cover all of her body, with the exception of her face and one arm, depicted in a personal moment of daydream and fantasy. Famous photographer Youssef Nabil, an admitted influence on the artist, is felt here in theme, colors, perspective and cinematic-based narrative. This photograph measures 12 x 18 inches (30.5 x 45.7 cm), is edition 1/5, is unframed in excellent condition.

Ibi Ibrahim has been awarded the GLAAD Best Emerging Artist and the Forward Thinking Museum Artist Competition Runner-up both in 2010. He has exhibited throughout New York and Los Angeles, San Francisco, Pennsylvania among other major cities. Ibrahim currently lives and works in the U.S. and is represented by select, top Middle Eastern art galleries in the world.
