Lot Details

“This is an age of craziness. We have no choice but to be insanely excited and scream and shake as we go faster and faster.”-Huang Keyi and Chen Zhou.

It is clear why "Super Factory No. 1" (2007) is considered one of the most important digitally manipulated photographs to-date by renowned Chinese multi-media artistic duo Huang Keyi (China, 1980) and Chen Zhuo (China, 1978). The photograph belongs to their iconic "Super Factory" Series of large-scale color photographs. Taking up to a month to finish each photograph, the duo integrates real and virtual images in the photographs from the Series, duplicating here and erasing there. Depicting what at first appears to be a straightforward yet grandiose display of China's military might-upon closer inspection, the impossibility of this composition becomes clear. It becomes apparent that the same machines, figures, patterns are repeated over and over. The light-hearted and the deadly are both at home, integrated in seamless fashion, with old and new China coexist in their works in an exciting manner that is both ironic and subversive. This photograph measures 35.45 x 55.11 inches and is in perfect condition.

As part of the younger "'80's Generation" of Chinese artists, Chen Zhuo and Huang Keyi find video and color photography and Photoshop to be the perfect marriage of media for their exuberant views of the "New China".
Their video, graphic and photographic works have been embraced by collectors and curators alike world-wide shown at notable Museum and Gallery exhibitions including notable highlights such as:"Exhibition on the Asian International Short Film Festival" travelling to Karlsruhe, Barcelona, Cambridge, U.K and Toronto, Canada closing at the Centre Georges Pompidou, France."Monde Parallele Chine", at the Tri Postal Museum, France."Chinese kunst in het hart van Amsterdam", Holland;
"The 1st Graphic Design Biennale Germany/ China 2010" Offenbach, Germany. PingYao International Photography Festival", China and many more.
