Hiroyuki Matsuura is internationally known for his unique take on Japanese anime as well as the 'Super-Flat' style of working. Matsuura is a mixed media artist, creating paintings, mixed media works and prints. This work is an iconic image from the artist's famous "Transmission" series of prints, each depicting a different figure wearing a motorcycle helmets emblazoned with various insignia. "Transmission 9-Super Star" depicts the stars and stripes of the American US Flag on the helmet worn by a mischevious young blond boy. This print is in excellent condition and from an edition of 10, measuring 35.8 x 35.8 inches (90.9 x 90.9 cm).

Hiroyuki Matsuura was born in 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. He bean his career in the arts as a graphic designer in 1984, designing advertising, packaging, binding, and logos in Japan. From 1999 onwards, he started to use “character illustration” as themes to create “Poster + Package + Skateboard” designs. After he received the elite “Scout Prize” in 2001 at Takashi Murakami’s “GEIJUTSU-DOUJOU/GP at MOT” exhibition, Matsuura was embraced as a serious artist on the Contemporary Japanese art scene. Through animation-based subject matter, Matsuura’s characters bring are nostalgic and based on reviving one's happy and dynamic childhood memories. In turn, Matsuura is critically acclaimed for his use of bright, vivid usage as well as possessing an assured and iconic painting style.
