Lot Details

This image of Irish performer May Belfort was used as the cover for Lautrec's "Treize Lithographies" series. It was also published without the text as plate 4 in the "Portraits d'Acteurs & d'Actrices" portfolio. Belfort, a vaudeville singer, gained notoriety for her erotic-tinged performances as a child impersonator. Lautrec was introduced to Belfort at the Irish-American Bar in Paris by her lover, dancer May Milton. She posed for Lautrec several times in the 1890s.

Lautrec's monogram appears in the lower right corner on the stone. This work comes beautifully framed as shown.
