Gyorgy Kepes (1906 - 2001) was a Hungarian-born American painter, filmmaker and photographer. He created abstract images using a variety of techniques, such as photograms. He also experimented with prints he called “photo-drawings,” where he applied paint to a glass plate, and then used that plate as a negative. Utilizing a variety of high and low camera positions he was able to flatten and abstract space.
