G.R. Santosh. (Indian 1929-1997). "Untitled". 1994. Acrylic on canvas.
This work is custom framed and in excellent condition. This work comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This stunning and dynamic abstract painting is an important example of the iconic compositions that made Contemporary Indian artist Gulam Rasool “G.R.” Santosh (b. Indian, 1929-1997) one of the most sought after artists from the post-Modern era. His most important 'Tantric Art' paintings, such as this rare small-scale painting, are composed of organic and abstracted forms in bright colors floating above mystical landscapes. Each work exudes harmony and conveys the Tantric manifestation of the transcendent power of the Universal Mind, or Brahman, to create a reality independent from the material environment. This painting measures 20 x 14 inches unframed and is professionally framed to larger dimensions.

Born in Srinagar Kashmir, “G.R.” Santosh became a major leader in the Tantric Art movement in the sixties and seventies in India and South Asia. Inspired by Tantra and Kashmir Shaivism, Santosh’s work took its own unique path and has become high acclaimed by scholars and collectors alike. His paintings have been exhibited in museums across the world, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, and the Sao Paulo Biennale, and he was named the Artist of the Year Award in New Delhi in 1984.
