Frame dimensions are approximate.
Work #5 measures 11.41 x 8.26 inches and was completed in 2008.

This suite of five works on paper by twin brothers Gert and Uwe Tobias exemplify their dynamic blend of abstraction, camp, and the mythology associated with their Romanian heritage.

Born in Romania in 1973, Gert and Uwe Tobias achieved critical acclaim following their first major solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. As both artistic collaborators and twin brothers, the artists work in a highly symbolic fashion in their shared studio space in Cologne. During the process of creating an artwork, the piece is passed back and forth between the two brothers until both deem the work as completed. Upon completion of the piece, the work in its entirety is considered the product of both artists, irrespective of which artist may have taken lead. Although most widely revered for their large-scale woodcuts, the brothers have also produced numerous smaller drawings that offer an impressive insight into their innovative oeuvre. Both artists continue to live and work in Cologne.
