Composed by the ancient Greek poet Hesiod around 700BC, the Theogony is a veritable source book for Greek mythology. It features a synthesis of ancient Greek traditions, organized as a narrative of how the mythological deities came to exist and how they came to control the cosmos. In this wonderful collection of etchings Braque breaths new life in to the stories of these gods and goddesses.
Georges Braque became one of the founders of Modernism when he joined the artists involved in developing fauvism in 1905. At l'Estaque in 1909 he was profoundly influenced by Cezanne. He met Pablo Picasso, and the two simultaneously explored form and structure with results that led to the development of cubism.
