Lot Details

The name "Orlin Donaldson" appears on the protective cardboard mount, he was a Hoyningen-Huene assistant. Staley Wise Gallery advised the present owner that they acquired the work from Donaldson.

There is some silvering to the surface of the photograph. The photograph is not adhered to the mount, but attached to the mount by plastic corner brackets. The mount is soiled.

George Hoyningen-Huene was a notable fashion photographer in the 1920s through the 1940s, working for French Vogue for many years, before relocating from France to New York in 1935, to work for Harper’s Bazaar. Hoyningen-Huene went on to work in Hollywood in 1946, photographing numerous celebrities and working on films including the 1954 Judy Garland film, “A Star is Born.”
