Lot Details

Historic collection of two of Marilyn Monroe's last photographs from her last photo shoot, taken in 1962 by photographer George Barris. The photo shoot took place over several weeks at a private home in the North Hollywood Hills, and at Santa Monica beach, California. The photos were taken in natural settings with natural lighting in order to capture the real Marilyn, not the Hollywood image. Marilyn is seen in these exquisite photographs laying on the sand and walking along the beach, wearing a knitted cardigan that would later sell at Christie's auction in New York for $167,500.

George Barris was commissioned by Cosmopolitan Magazine to take photos of Marilyn. In conjunction, Marilyn and George decided to begin working on their book which they planned several years previously, using George's photographs and Marilyn's story in her own words. These would be the last photos taken of Marilyn Monroe, just a couple of weeks before her untimely demise.

Marilyn Monroe, collection of two photographs from the "Last Photos". Original black and white 16"x20" photographs from the original camera negatives, hand signed by the photographer. Stamped on the verso, artist proofs.
