Lot Details

As a postwar German painter, Georg Baselitz (German, b. 1938) developed a distinct painting language that relinquished the importance of subject matter, and focused on medium as the primary concern. “Untitled” is an exceptional example of his developed painterly approach and his choice to render his imagery upside down. The squatting figure seen here clings to the peripherals, with his arm prominently displayed and powerfully enlarged upon a fluid, almost translucent background of purple/pink watercolors. Hastily drawn horizontal lines create a subtle sense of depth and perspective on an otherwise flat abstract background.

This work measures 27.5 x 19.5 inches (32.5 x 24.5 cm) unframed. The framed size is 32.5 x 24.5 inches (82.6 x 62.2 cm)
